Inspect Bearings
Bearings should be inspected at least yearly and more often if possible. Some need to be properly greased, or they will overheat, causing significant damage, and some are factory-lubricated for the life of the bearing.
Damaged bearings may cause:
- Damage to shafts
- Damage to motors
- Damage to belts
- Damage to blower wheels
Replacing all these parts due to a bad bearing can be highly costly in some cases. Usually, items such as shafts need to be specially ordered, so there will be a delay before the work can even begin. The labor involved may be high because some types of bearings and shafts can be very time-consuming to replace. Keeping bearings properly lubed can help prevent this from occurring.
